Plush Keychain Project Instructions

Plush Keychain Project Instructions

You will need:

  • Plush fabric
  • Tearaway embroidery stabilizer
  • Water soluble embroidery stabilizer
  • Quilting spray
  • Tape or pins
  • Stuffing
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Keychain attachment

    Instructions:

    • Tip: Match bobbin thread color to plush fabric
    • Hoop a piece of tearaway stabilizer and spray using quilting spray. Place plush fabric down on stabilizer, right side up.

Place water soluble stabilizer on top of the plush fabric (so the stitches don’t get lost/hidden in the plush fabric). You may want to use a small amount of quilting spray to keep the water soluble stabilizer in place as well. (The plush side of the fabric may naturally stick to the water soluble stabilizer in some cases.)

Run the tackdown stitching to hold everything in place, then proceed with the main embroidery design.

Place another small piece of plush fabric on top, right sides together. Secure it in place using masking tape or pins.

Run the seam stitch. Remove tape, unhoop the project, and remove tearaway stabilizer. Cut away excess fabric, leaving approximately 1/3” seam allowance. Cut slightly closer around corners, or notch the corners.

Turn project rightside out and wash away water soluble stabilizer. Let the project dry completely before stuffing.

Once dry, stuff the keychain, then use embroidery thread to close up the side and sew on the keychain attachment wherever you want it to go. To hide the tail of the thread easily, put it all the way through the plush, pull tightly, and cut close. Once cut, fluff up the plush with your fingers, and the thread will disappear inside.
